A new stone circle has been identified by staff of the West of Scotland Archaeology Service close the line of the old Military Road near Balquhidder, in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. This circle, comprising five rough boulders, does not appear on any available Ordnance Survey maps of the area. However, rather than being a previously-overlooked antiquity, it appears that this stone circle was erected in the relatively recent past, as comparison with the Google Streetview cover of the area indicates that the circle was not present when their data-collection car passed that way in March 2009.
In the viewpoint above, it is possible to match the earthfast stone in the foreground, the houses and gorse on the distant hillside and the leaning post in the fence-line running behind the feature with the same elements in the picture at the top of the page to provide convincing evidence that despite its apparent antiquity, the circle at Kingshouse was erected at some point in the last three years!
