From this page, you can find out more about archaeological sites and previous fieldwork that has taken place in your area. There are two ways of searching this data; either use the form at the bottom of the page to search our online database directly, or use our map-search page to find sites by area. WoSAS Interactive Map-Search
A new function has been developed to allow members of the public to access WoSAS Sites and Monuments Record data. This search facility, which was developed in conjunction with South Ayrshire Council, can be tried at the WoSAS Interactive Mapping page. Using this system, you can find out about sites, monuments and previous archaeological events from across the area covered by the West of Scotland Archaeology Service, either by identifying single features on the map or by selecting groups of features by drawing search areas onto the map.
WoSAS Text Search
Each recorded Site or Monument in the WoSAS area is assigned a unique identification number, its WoSAS Pin. If you already know the WoSAS Pin of the site you wish to view, entering its pin in the top box will take you directly to the site record.
Alternatively, if you do not know the WoSAS Pin of the site you wish to view, you can find it by using the form below.
The WoSAS Sites and Monuments Record also contains details of over 1800 archaeological events, including excavations, watching briefs and surveys. As with our site records, each entry in the database has a unique identification number, its event ID. If you know the ID of the event record you want to view, you can use the form below to go directly to the relevant form.
Alternatively, if you do not know the event identification number, you can search for events using the form below
If you would like to search our records on a map basis, you can visit the Archeological Data Service or Pastmap.
