NS 4259 7964. A partially destroyed cist has been reported by walkers (R M MacGregor) on a hillside overlooking the upper section of the Murroch Burn.
Information from R M MacGregor, 12 August 1995
On the N bank of an un-named tributary of the Murroch Burn at NS 4255 7964, a large substantially built cist (or chamber?) is exposed on a low rise above the burn channel. Several large stones are exposed, and more are covered by turf. See sketch plan. The cist is contained in a roughly oval rise measuring about 7m by 6m by 0.2m high. One large stone on the W side of the cist may represent an in situ kerb stone. Loose stone also occurs frequently further away from the cist, and it is difficult to determine whether this represents the displaced remains of a small kerbed cairn or the in situ remains of a larger cairn. If it is the latter, the remains extend over about 18m NE-SW by 16m. Three large stones between 5m and 8m S of the cist may suggest a collapsed façade.
High vegetation was problematic at the time of survey. Rig and furrow is preserved to the N and NE of the site.
Report and sketch plan in SMR archive.
