Site Report

WoSASPIN 21372

The following site in West Dunbartonshire has been identified and recorded during fieldwork carried out by the staff of WoSAS. Full details are available in the WoSAS SMR.
NS 3777 7926 Poachy Glen - Structure.
West of Scotland Archaeology Service 1997.

At the location of the sheepfold marked on the modern maps there are no upstanding remains, however, the low turf-covered remains of two walls are just visible. One of these (the easternmost) appears to underlie and thus predate the existing drystone dyke running E-W. The two walls protrude perpendicularly a few metres from the main dyke, while on the south side of this dyke is a slight platform, which may represent the end of a structure pre-dating the dyke.
Flower, C., Strathclyde SMR, 04/12/96

The superficial remains of the sheepfold marked on the modern maps have been removed, but low turf-covered foundations, probably of a building , are just visible. Nothing is marked on the OS 1st edition map, and the exsisting dry-stone dyke appears to rise over, and thus post-date the remains. Two walls are apparent leading in from the present dyke.
