Site Report

WoSASPIN 22274

Just below the main summit there is a lerge boulder measuring about 1.8m long by 0.9m broad at one end, tapering to 0.4m broad at the other end, and polygonal in section. It lies prone, resting on the surface, with disturbance around the broader end suggesting that it was formerly upright. The possible socket hole was filled with water at the time of visiting. Visibility of the surrounding landscape was excellent.

The SMR records a possible standing stone just below the main summit of Killoeter Hill. Field survey recorded the monument as being 1.9m long. The base was 0.9m wide and it was visible to a prone height of 0.8m. The stone tapers to a lip c. 0.5m in width and appears to be polygonal although it is partially buried and only two faces remain visible. A possible water filled socket hole was recorded at the base. It is roughly circular with well defined edges and is c. 1.6m in diameter by c. 0.15m in depth.

The fallen standing stone was damaged and disturbed between August 2010 and spring 2011, and has been dragged out of its socket hole.
