(NS 0149 4545) Site of Cairn (NR)
OS 6" map, (1924)
At this site is the base of a large cairn which has been encroached on all round by ploughed land. No megalithic structure exists, and no cist is exposed (Bryce 1903). This cairn was removed a few years ago for building dykes. On its E side the bank fell away, revealing an urn containing human bones (ONB 1864).
Name Book 1864; T H Bryce 1903.
The published site lies in an area of scrub within cultivated land. There are several small amorphous heaps of stone but these are clearly modern stone dumps from field clearance and there is no surface evidence of a cairn.
Visited by OS (T R G) 1 December 1977.
