Site Report

WoSAS Pin 51499

A further range of buildings is shown to the south-east of those referred to above approximately 200m further up the mill lade (now marked as a drain), and near the mill weir on the river. Like the fulling mill buildings mentioned above, the range is aligned SW-NE, but is annotated "Fulling and Corn" on the 1st Edition O.S. map. Its proximity to the water source, and its combined use for corn milling would imply that this is the earlier of the two sites at Pinclanty. An aqueduct is also shown at approximately NX 23435 91370 on the 1st Edition O.S. map carrying the lade over a small burn before it reaches the upper mill complex. This feature is not shown on modern maps, and its location and that of the first part of the head-race has been dsturbed by modern field boundaries. The former upper mill buildings are currently disused, and only the larger element on the north-eastern side of the lade and the south-westernmost of the three cells on the other side of the lade are shown as being roofed.
