Nothing is now visible of a wooden railway bridge that was built in the 1850s to carry coal across the River Clyde from coal pits on the south bank at Cambuslang to the Clyde Iron Works (NS66 SW259) to the north. It spanned 60m and was known as the Rosebank Bridge, after Rosebank House (NS66 SW259) located 130m to the SW, as depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 25-inch map (Lanark 1864, Sheet XI.5). It was also known as the Orion Bridge, after a naval tragedy involving a paddle steamer of the same name in which George Burns, who owned Rosebank House at this time, lost his brother John (http://www.glasgowwestaddress.co.uk/Old_Country_Houses/Rosebank.htm, accessed 26/09/17). The bridge burned down in 1919 and its site is now occupied by the Cambuslang Footbridge (NS66SW 969) which was built in 1977.
